5 Step Guide: How to Design A Bespoke Kitchen!

Designing a new kitchen is an incredibly personal thing, it needs to meet the needs and budget of an individual house, which is why sometimes it’s better not to leave it to the salesman/designer. This week DIY Homefit, specialists in made to measure kitchens, thought we would share with you some simple steps in designing your own perfect kitchen:

  1. What do you do in the kitchen? Think about how you use this space within the house. Whether you’re a whizz in the kitchen or simply a novice that enjoys cooking, there may be certain factors that would make cooking much easier for you.  For example, lots of workspace, a dishwasher, lots of storage solutions.

  2. Measure and measure again! Measure the space in which the kitchen will be fitted.  If you are redesigning the entire space obviously you just need to measure the room size.  If, however, you are keeping the same layout but changing carcasses and doors, DIY Homefit have a helpful “how-to-guide” which can be found here.  Check your measurement twice, it’s much better to be safe than sorry!

  3. Choose a style and colour.  There are so many options available that it can often be hard to decide.  Think about how long you would want your kitchen to last for and choose colours, styles and layouts that you would be happy with living with for that period of time. As a starter for 10 why not check out some of our fantastic finishes here.

  4. Check your order.  So you have chosen the design and now need to place the order.  Our system allows you to place items in your basket and go back time and time again so you can review them to make sure you don’t forget anything.

  5. Finally…Know your limitations.  You have placed your order and are looking forward to having your new kitchen installed, but perhaps you’re not the best at DIY. Paying the extra for a fitter can make the difference between a sufficient installation and a superb looking kitchen.  Here at DIY Homefit we can find a local fitter to aid you with this process.
