Five ways to improve your home before Christmas

Make some magic this fall with a home upgrade; kitchens, bedrooms and home office furniture from DIY Homefit…

2020 has been a difficult and unsettling year, and there is still a great deal of uncertainty about how the next few weeks and months will evolve…

In the midst of all this is the growing awareness that Christmas is not so very far away.

Whilst many of us are understandably reluctant to make too many plans in case we need to change them, there is also a realisation that it might be a good idea to get Christmas organised early this year. Simply because we have no real idea of what might be happening around then.

So don’t be surprised if you begin to notice people doing Christmas shopping a bit earlier than usual. This year has been so full of surprises that the concept of “making hay while the sun shines” does make a lot of sense.

This also applies to our homes. If there are improvements that you want to make in your home, particularly if you are hoping to get them done before Christmas, then there is no time like the present.

Even if money is tight, there are still things that you can do to freshen up your home without spending a small fortune. Here are five ideas about how you could improve your home quickly and cheaply before Christmas.

Create an office space

2020 has been the year of working from home. This applies both to adults in paid employment, and children and teenagers at school or college. Many adults are now continuing to work from home and this may become a permanent situation.

But if you have family members working from home it’s important for all of you to be able to differentiate between home and work. So creating an office space is really important. The ideal is to convert a spare bedroom or other little-used space into a separate office. But even if this is not an option for you, then setting aside part of a room, a landing or hallway, or even an outbuilding will make a huge difference.

This will not only make your home look better and less cluttered, but also enable you to switch off at the end of the working day, and enjoy relaxing in your home.

Refresh kitchen worktops

One easy way that you can instantly brighten up your home is by replacing your existing kitchen worktops. There are so many designs to choose from that you could quickly give your kitchen a completely different look altogether. Whether you want a matt or gloss effect, smooth or textured finish, bright colours or something more subdued, DIY Homefit has the perfect worktop design for your kitchen.

With replacement kitchen doors, and perhaps a matching or contrasting coat of paint on your kitchen walls, there will be a huge improvement to the look and feel of your kitchen.

Add more bedroom storage

Another room that can get very cluttered is the bedroom. So it’s definitely worth adding more bedroom storage to your home. Not only does this make your bedroom look better, but it can help to make your busy life run so much more smoothly if you are able to find things easily and quickly.

At DIY Homefit we have some lovely ranges of wardrobes, that can be custom built to fit all those awkward nooks and crannies in your bedroom. There are additional storage solutions such as racks and rails that can be installed within these wardrobes. We also have matching furniture items including beds, headboards, drawers, stools and mirrors.

So why not make the most of every inch of space in your bedroom, and ensure that you have enough storage space to put everything away and transform your bedroom into a beautifully uncluttered room in which you can really relax.

Maximise space with mirrors and glass

Even if you have a small bedroom, you can make this look much bigger and better by clever use of mirrors. Adding mirrored or other reflective glass sliding doors to your bedroom wardrobes will give an illusion of space, and will also add more light and depth to your room.

Glass sliding wardrobe doors can also make your bedroom look much more contemporary. For example you can add panels of coloured glass, frosted glass or glossy perspex. Any of these would give your bedroom an instant update and make the room look totally different.
