Making an Ideal Home

The Ideal Home show has just finished at London’s Olympia.   The show has been running for over 100 years during which time it has been helping to transform British homes in many different ways.  There are areas of the show covering kitchens and bathrooms, bedrooms, gardens, gadgets, fine food, fashion, beauty and gifts.

One of the key things that the show emphasises is that the focus for the home is increasingly about improving rather than moving.  Over the next few weeks we will feature some of the trends for kitchen refurbishments and bedroom makeovers from this year’s show.

For now, here are five of our favourite tips on making your house into an Ideal Home:

  1. Abolish clutter!  Declutter regularly, and find clever storage solutions to hide the rest!  Your home will look so much better.  A recent blog gave some ideas on how to do this.

  2. Keep things open.  Leave as much open space as you can.  This will make even the smallest room look more spacious.  At DIY Homefit we have some wonderful examples of open plan kitchens which not only look stunning but also fit perfectly with the current trend for more open plan living.

  3. Save space.  Continuing the above theme, for bedrooms, a clever way of doing this is to use sliding wardrobe doors.  This does not affect the size of the wardrobe, just makes it look more streamlined and avoids protruding doors.

  4. Use mirrors.  Mirrors are brilliant for reflecting light around a room and making it look much bigger in the process.  At DIY Homefit we provide a wide range of mirrored wardrobe doors – see our recent blog for more ideas.

  5. Beautiful bedrooms.  Don’t neglect this most important room of the house!  Why not give some care and attention to the first thing you see when you wake up and the last thing you see as you fall asleep at night? Have a look at some of our examples of beautiful bedrooms for inspiration!

We hope that we have helped you get started on creating your own Ideal Home!  Watch this space over the coming weeks for ideas from the show itself but, in the meantime, why not start creating your own version right away!
