Celebrate Pancake Day in style!

Flip your kitchen with our huge range of replacement kitchen cabinets

Let’s face it, we could all do with something to look forward to at the moment. Some kind of celebration that everyone can join in with. And, of course, it has to be something we can do at home.

The good news is that the ideal celebration is just around the corner: Pancake Day! Even better news is that if you miss the actual day this year – Tuesday 16th February – it’s something that you can do anytime you feel like having a bit of family fun.

Pancake Day traditions

Of course this year there will be various Pancake Day traditions across the UK that will not be able to happen. These include such strange delights as pancake races and other weird and wonderful sporting events, including Hurling the Silver Ball at St Columb Major in Cornwall, where the aim is to get the silver ball into team goals around two miles apart.

There will also be disappointed school children in Toddington in Bedfordshire, where the Pancake Tuesday custom is to climb Conger Hill, lie on the ground and listen for the local witch frying her pancakes as the clock strikes midday. But sadly this year, the school is closed due to the pandemic.

So 2021 is the time to make new Pancake Day traditions, in and around the home. And make it a Pancake Day to remember.

One of the most important things to prepare in advance is the ingredients for your pancake toppings.

Sweet and savoury pancake toppings

Here are a few ideas for pancake toppings, both sweet and savoury, from the BBC Good Food website. Some are old favourites, others are newer ideas that you may want to try for something a bit different:

  • Chocolate, peanut butter and banana
  • Squash, goat’s cheese and rosemary
  • Arnold Bennett souffle (with smoked haddock)
  • Crêpes Suzette (orange juice, lemon juice, sugar)
  • Vegan tomato and mushroom
  • American blueberry
  • Breakfast bacon and egg
  • Buttermilk pancakes (with toppings such as sticky bananas and Brazil nuts)
  • Rhubarb compote and vanilla crème fraîche

But whatever toppings you choose, you need to make sure that your kitchen is up to the task.

Organising your kitchen for Pancake Day

Upgrading your kitchen may be something that you think about now and again, but it’s often when you are using it for something special that you realise it really is time to change. Pancake Day tests your kitchen to the limit, with batter to mix and toppings to prepare, resulting in a huge amount of pots and pans to be cleared up afterwards. Not to mention hungry hordes milling around as well!

It’s times like these when you wish your kitchen was just that little bit better.

But help is at hand! If you want to change any of the following things in your kitchen, then DIY Homefit has just the solution:

Kitchen cabinets look drab?

This is an easy one to fix! If you look round your kitchen and realise that the kitchen cabinets are looking drab and you’d like a completely different colour, then you will be spoilt for choice at DIY Homefit! We can offer you an extensive collection of replacement kitchen cabinet doors and coordinating drawer fronts. We have a wide range of colours and finishes, and can supply different styles of doors including flat slab, vinyl wrapped and handleless J-Pull.

Just replacing your kitchen cabinet doors can totally transform the look and feel of your kitchen, as you can see from the Acrylic Cream Ultragloss doors pictured below.

Wasted space above the kitchen cabinets

Many kitchens have wasted space above the kitchen cabinets. Space that only then gathers dust. So one thing you could do is replace the cabinet that is already there with a taller kitchen cabinet from DIY Homefit. This will provide you more storage space, will make your kitchen look much more streamlined, and will also stop that dust gathering.

DIY Homefit’s kitchen cabinets are available in a range of different sizes, including custom built. The image below features a variety of kitchen cabinets with our Warwick vinyl wrapped doors in Oakgrain Mussel. Why leave empty space, when you can fill it so beautifully?

Tatty and damaged kitchen worktops

One thing you will definitely notice when busy doing food preparation is damaged worktops. If this is the case, particularly water damage to worktops, then you do need to get this sorted because once worktops get damaged this is likely to get worse, perhaps to the point where they no longer function effectively.

At DIY Homefit we supply an extensive range of premium quality laminate worktops. All you need to do is select the style you want, and supply the measurements, and we will do the rest. We can also provide free samples of worktops for you to see how good they will look in your home before ordering.

Replacing one or more worktops in your kitchen can make a huge difference not only to how it looks, but also how efficiently it operates and how easy it is to maintain.

Kitchen splashback is dated

Another item to consider replacing is your kitchen splashback. Splashbacks are the unsung heroes of the kitchen. They protect the wall behind your hob, sink or worktops so that they are not damaged by heat or splashes.

Whether you choose to have a splashback that matches or contrasts with your worktop and kitchen cabinets, a new splashback will add the perfect finishing touch to your updated kitchen.
